The Lemon law of California has been enacted to protect the consumers of defective goods including their vehicles. Under this law, the sellers and manufacturers of defective vehicles are responsible for their warranties and to compensate the owners or lessee of defective vehicles. However, there are a few conditions for a vehicle to be considered as a Lemon.
For a new vehicle to be considered as a Lemon, it must meet the following conditions:
- The problem did not resolve despite -
- Four or more attempts at repair for the same defect
- The problem started within 18,000 miles of use or 18 months of purchase
- The vehicle was out of service for 30 days or longer due to being repaired
- The manufacturer's warranty covers the defect that is responsible for the problem
- Two or more attempts at repair for an issue capable of causing serious physical injury or death
